River Village
Christmas is
the wonderful home-town festival of an Ohio river town.
A hometown parade, carriage rides, caroling, concerts, tree-lighting, cookie decorating, baby contest, tree
decorating contest and gingerbread contest, luminaries along Hwy. 52,
River Village Christmas gets better every year. Usually the 2nd weekend in December.
The Ohio Tobacco
Festival
The Ohio Tobacco Festival was officially formed in January 1982 at a meeting held in the
basement of the Masonic Lodge in Ripley.
At that meeting, the
purpose of the festival was defined. "To create an awareness of
tobacco, to provide a few days of entertainment and perhaps make some
money for participating organizations."
Twenty years ago tobacco
was grown on more than 11,000 farms in Ohio, providing over $36 million in
net revenues to Ohio farmers on an annual basis and generating more than
$57 billion a year nationally.
The festival has free
admission, free entertainment, free shuttle service and free contests. The
festival provides visitors and residents with a fun-filled weekend
packed with contests, entertainment and food that the whole family can
enjoy. 4th weekend in August.
